Madrid: La Liga, the organizers of COTIF U-20 football tournament, in an official statement, have confirmed the first four entries to the tournament this year. India is among the first four to have confirmed their participation in this year's edition of the U-20 tournament.
Besides India, Argentina, Morocco and Qatar are the other three teams to have confirmed their entries. Argentina is the defending champions of the tournament, which they won last year defeating Russia 2-1 in the finals.
The tournament is slated to take place from July 28 to August 8 this year in Spain. India defeated Argentina in the group stage of the 2018 edition of the tournament, after which they received the invitation to participate again this year.
India was placed alongside Argentina, Venezuela, Mauritania and Spanish club Murcia CF in the 2018 edition of the tournament. While the team lost to Murcia and Mauritania in the first two encounters, the U-20 team later found momentum as they held Venezuela for a goalless draw and defeated Argentina 2-1 in their final game of the group stage.
It is likely that the India U-16 side which participated in the AFC U-16 Championship 2018 in Malaysia will represent the country in the tournament this year.
