Guwahati: An intense clash between NorthEast United and Bengaluru FC came to an end with the home side beating the visitors 2-1 to go with a lead into the second leg, which would be held in Bengaluru. Redeem Tlang and Mascia got on the score sheet for the hosts while Xisco scored a goal for the visiting side.
The match proceedings began with the Highlanders dominating the possession and were able to make some great moves in the opponent's half. Redeem Tlang got on the scoresheet in the 20th minute of the game as he cut into the box and unleashed a stunning left-footed curling strike to caress it into the far corner and score his first ISL goal.
The home side received a big blow right near the stroke of the half time as Ogebche pulled his hamstring and left the pitch in tears. He got replaced by Juan Mascia. Super-sub Xisco gave the visitors an important equalizer as Chhetri dodged his way into the box and delivered a pin-point cross towards Xisco, who made no mistake and found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
But just when it seemed that the visitors would be going back with a draw, Chhetri conceded a freekick as he fouled Reagan Singh and the Khabra brought down Mascia in the penalty box during the freekick. Mascia pummeled the ball into the back of the net and won the leg for the Highlanders.
The second leg will be now played at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on 11th March.
