Mandalay: India national women's team kicked off their women's football Olympic qualifiers round 2 campaign for 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a 2-0 win over Indonesia here at the Mandalarthiri Stadium on Wednesday.
Dangmei Grace's brace was the difference between the two sides in a contest that was largely dominated by the Maymol Rocky-coached India. Brimming with confidence coming on the back of the SAFF Cup victory, the team started the proceedings with complete domination in terms of possession and attack. Sanju and Ratanbala Devi showed trickery on the flank to cause problems to the Indonesian defence.
Sanju's cross in the 24th minute almost broke the Indonesian defence and the clearance could have almost turn into an own goal. Dangmei Grace got on the end of the ball at the right side in the penalty box to finish the ball into the back of the net to give India the lead in the 27th minute after Sandhiya's impressive run into the box which was followed by a shot was done away by the Indonesian custodian.
Indian attack continued to trouble opposition defence in the second half. Ratanbala Devi's shot in the 56th minute demanded uncanny save from the Indonesian custodian Riska Julianti. India doubled the lead in the 67th minute when Dangmei Grace once again managed to apply finishing touches to an attempt at goal this time by substitute Sumithra.
Indian defence kept composure in the second half for the rest of the minutes to keep the scoreline 2-0 till the blow of full-time whistle.
