Kuala Lumpur: India U-19 football team has been drawn in Group F of the AFC U-19 Championship Qualifiers 2020 alongside hosts Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan in the qualifiers that are slated from November 2-10, 2019.
“It is a tough draw for us and we are aware of the strengths our opponents possess. But at the same time the boys have shown that they can fight against some of the best teams (in the Hero I-League) and we are hopeful of our qualification chances,” said head coach Floyd Pinto.
“We would have to be on the top of our game if we are to qualify from this group,” he further added.
In 2017, the previous batch of Indian U-19s were also drawn with Saudi Arabia as hosts. India registered a 3-0 win over Turkmenistan and played a goal-less draw against Yemen, but lost 5-0 to Saudi Arabia which blew their chance to make it to the finals.
The current batch of India U-19 side will include players of previous India U-16 batch too.
GROUP F: Saudi Arabia (H), Uzbekistan, India, Afghanistan
