Arsenal Transfer Summary 2020-21

Arsenal is looking to start a new era with club legend Mikel Arteta getting his first full season as club’s manager post his stint as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City. The club to date has made a net spend of around €20 Million with major defensive reinforcements.

The club began their transfer journey by completing permanent signings of defenders Pablo Mari from Flamengo and Cedric Soares from Southampton. The club has earmarked the signing of a marquee center-back and has managed to sign Brazilian Gabriel right under Napoli’s nose for €25 Million to pair him up with William Saliba who returns from his loan move at Saint Etienne. Arsenal has listed names such as Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac, Sokratis and Shkodaran Mustafi. Sokratis is believed to have agreed on personal terms with Napoli while Arsenal has received offers from Lazio for Mustafi and Schalke for Kolasinac. The club somehow managed to ship Konstantinos Mawropanos to German club VFB Stuttgart on a loan move and was in negotiations with Barcelona regarding striking a deal to sell Hector Bellerin but Barcelona opted to sign Ajax Right back Sergio Dest instead.

In the goalkeeping department, the club’s No. 2 keeper Emiliano Martinez had expressed his desire to leave the club due to lack of game time and have found a new home in Aston Villa where he joined on a 5 years contract on €22 Million deal. Martinez is currently being replaced by 24 years old Icelandic keeper Runar Alex Runarsson from French club Dijon for merely € 2 Million.

The club has been in dire need of a central midfielder due to Arteta not in the favour of including Matteo Guendozi and Lucas Torreira. Atletico Madrid has shown interest in signing Uruguayan midfielder to replace Hector Herrera and have offered to sign him on loan with the option to buy. Arsenal is open to conclude the deal by wanting Atletico to send Thomas Partey on the same terms and are still in talks for a possible solution. Mikel Arteta’s dream midfield signing is said to be French Midfielder Houssem Aouar who broke out on football centerstage in his scintillating performance against Manchester City in UEFA Champions League 19-20 Quarterfinals. Aouar have already expressed to make regular appearances in UEFA Competitions by playing for a top club which Lyon is unable to guarantee him. Lyon wants € 60 Million while Arsenal were trying to lower his asking price by including Matteo Guendozi in a player plus cash deal which Lyon has turned down. Other than Partey and Aouar, Jorginho from Chelsea and Idrissa Gueye from PSG have also made it to the list of potential options. Chelsea is considering to cash in on Jorginho to generate funds for signing Declan Rice coupled with him falling behind N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic in the pecking order.

On the attack front, Arsenal’s priority was to tie down their captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to a new contract, which they managed to do along with signing former Chelsea player Willian on a free transfer which is turning out to be a great business. The club is also trying all means to offload Mesut Ozil by offering him to multiple clubs including Turkish and Chinese clubs but his salary is proving to be an obstacle but they managed to get rid of Henrikh Mkhitaryan who joined AS Roma on a free transfer. The position of Alexandre Lacazette is under threat with Lyon pretty interested if the French club manages to offload Memphis Depay.
