Kolkata: Indian Super League (ISL) outfit ATK have roped in ex-West Brom assistant head coach Ben Garner for the rest of the season to replace Wally Downes who has joined AFC Wimbledon as head coach.
The former Crystal Palace coach, departed The Hawthorns after head coach Pulis’ exit in November 2017. Garner took charge of Albion for the friendly against Delhi Dynamos at The Hawthorns in 2016.
“I am delighted to have joined ATK FC until the end of their season and hopefully can help the team finish strongly. I have always had the ambition to work abroad and am really looking forward to the challenge of the Indian Super League," he added.
"Steve called me just after Christmas to ask if I’d be interested and we quickly got everything agreed. As a young player growing up he was manager of Crystal Palace and someone that I looked up to. I’ve worked with some very experienced managers and Steve is another highly experienced and clever manager that I can learn from. Working with him will undoubtedly make me a better coach and manager."
The Englishman is excited to coach in the ISL. "Having watched a number of games from before the break I’ve been able to study the other teams and players. It’s been great to be coaching again and I’m excited for the league to resume.”
