Deadliest attacking trio in European football - Part (1/5)

Some of the big European clubs like PSG, Liverpool and the likes are equipped with some of the most fearsome attacking players in world football. These attackers have tormented opposition defense all season, twisting and turning the defenders inside out and making some of the best goalkeepers in world football look like mere mortals. Here is a look at some of the deadliest trios in world football right now:

10. Manchester United - Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba

Manchester United look to be back to their marauding best. Banging in the goals, solid at the back, exciting young forwards taking on defenders and a solid base in front of the defense to shield the backline. The focus has been on the attacking trio of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba. The three of them boasts some really impressive stats:

Games | Goals | Assists

Anthony Martial - 25 | 9 | 1

Marcus Rashford - 31 | 12 | 8

Paul Pogba - 29 | 11 | 8

Total: 85 games - 32 goals + 17 assists

Marcus Rashford is only 21 years old and has already played more games than Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard when they were his age. Alongside him, the impressive Anthony Martial, only 23 years old, has found his old form back, the form which saw him make the big money move to Manchester United from AS Monaco. He is certainly living up to the hype of being the next Thierry Henry.

All of this has been made possible by the sacking of Jose Mourinho and the breaking of the defensive and tactical shackles of the creative and direct players as a result. No player has profited more from this than Paul Pogba. The frenchman has already surpassed his goal tally from the first 17 Premier League games, scoring 5 goals in his last 8 premier league games. The Manchester United attacking trio is certainly one of the most potent and individually unique collection of attacking talent in Europe right now.

9. Atalanta - Duvan Zapata, Josip Ilicic and Alejandro Gomez

A list highlighting attacking football is never complete without mentioning the players of Gian Piero Gasperini. The Italian manager is known for his attacking brand of football, one which has seen Duvan Zapata transition from a mediocre striker to one of the best in Serie A. Zapata has banged in 16 goals in his last last ten appearances. The stats of the front three are pretty impressive:

Games | Goals | Assists

Alejandro Gomez - 29 | 7 | 7

Duvan Zapata - 30 | 20 | 3

Josip Ilicic - 24 | 6 | 4

Total: 83 | 33 | 14

Alongside Duvan Zapata, Alejandro Gomez has been one of the chief creative forces in the Atalanta side, creating 7 goals for his teammates, on top of his 7 goals. In Josip Ilicic, Gasperini has a unique player who has scored goals in bunches. He has two hat-tricks to his name this season, more than any other player in Serie A and had scored three hat-tricks in the calendar year 2018, on par with Lionel Messi.

This deadly trio of attacking players have helped Atalanta secure big wins over AS Roma, Inter Milan and Juventus, while they also got points off of SSC Napoli and AC Milan. Gasperini’s counter-attacking style of football certainly suits the workhorses that are Zapata, Gomez and Ilicic, and with just 1 point separating Atalanta from Milan, who are in the fourth spot, Gasperini will be hoping that his attacking trio continue to produce the goods in order to finish in the top 4.
