Arsenal are finally set to land Denis Suarez, albeit on a loan deal. While the interest was obvious since the beginning of the window, FC Barcelona’s adamance of adding a compulsion to buy the player was a big roadblock for the Gunners. It is not yet clear whether they have been able to solve the issue or accepted the compulsory buy clause.
Ernesto Valverde, ahead of the second leg of the Spanish Copa Del Rey game against Sevilla, conceded that he will be losing Denis Suarez to Arsenal and thus will not be considered for selection.
“Denis Suarez is on the verge of joining Arsenal, there is not much left to make it official, we hope he does well, he has always acted with dedication and we are happy with him,” said Valverde.
Arsenal have been in the transfer market to buy a centre-back and a winger to cover for the injury crisis. With three of the four first choice defenders out for the foreseeable future (Hector Bellerin, Sokratis and Rob Holding) Arsenal were forced to dip into the transfer market. With Emery freezing Ozil out and Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggling with injury, Arsenal also needed a winger/attacker to cover for the losses.
Meanwhile, Valverde will almost definitely be naming a strong lineup with Messi, Luis Suarez and Coutinho in the lineup to come back from a 2 goals first leg deficit and continue their Copa Del Rey journey.
