East Bengal vs Manchester United: Financial hurdle to the fixture

East Bengal officials are worried over the expense of the fixture.

Kolkata: On the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the club, East Bengal announced that the club
is set to face Premier League Giants Manchester United in an exhibition match in Kolkata at the iconic
Salt Lake Stadium.

The fixture is expected to take place in July this year.

The news, which came as an exciting prospect for the East Bengal as well as of the Red Devils' fanbase in
the country, however, has stuck in limbo as the team based in Old Trafford have demanded a huge

appearance fee.
"They are ready to play here, but their appearance fee is huge. I cannot tell the amount, but it is
something we need to consider. We are not thinking about it now. We will take a call after May," said
East Bengal executive member Debabrata Sarkar.

A four-member delegation of the English club led by Allen Dawson met the Red and Gold officials and
also state Sports minister Aroop Bishwas. They also inspected the facilities and expressed their
satisfaction.

It is being estimated that Manchester United shall charge a hefty sum of Rs. 24 crores besides other
expenses which sum up to roughly Rs. 30 crores in total.

The club has already announced their exit from Quess partnership and is thus going to be without a
sponsor from next season onwards.

The club began its centenary celebrations in July last year, during which they felicitated many renowned
personalities, which included 1983 Cricket world cup winner Kapil Dev.
