Football is not just a game, its an emotion

Football is not just a game, but an emotion, as we all know it to be. And a few individuals simply facilitate in immortalizing this ‘emotion’. One such man is George Best, the greatest man to have worn The Northern Ireland green shirt; One of the earliest superstars in the world of football.

Though he succeeded and reached the top quite early but his proportion of success and failure amounts the same. George Best in one of his quotes said -

"I was born with a great gift, and sometimes with that comes a destructive streak. Just as I wanted to outdo everyone when I played, I had to outdo everyone when we were out on the town”

George Best was an iconic figure, polarizing opinions both on and off the pitch

Great players like Pele and Maradona looked at him as competition and people would refer to Maradona as good, Pele to be better but George Best. Due to his unique style of play, great dribbling skills, body feints, pace and his unique hairstyle, he earned the name “El Beatle”. At a tender age of 15, Best was recruited by a Manchester United scout in Belfast and was then on his road to glory. Under Sir Matt Busby, Best was well trained in the art of dribbling and learned how to penetrate the defense line and get through the rough tacklers.

Later in life, Best struglled with alcohol and on 25th November, 2005 he died after suffering from kidney infection. He still is one of the greatest players in the history of football and a hall of famer among the Manchester United fans. He still inspires the hearts of many young footballers and during his reign as a football god, he said

"They'll forget all the rubbish when I've gone and they'll remember the football. If only one person thinks I'm the best player in the world, that's good enough for me."

Another one of those legendary souls is Sir Alexander Chapman Ferguson. For every player to reach new heights he needs to be determined and hard working, but after reaching a certain point they seem to be at a point of rest. There they need a guardian and that’d be none other than Sir Alex Ferguson. We may not know him as a player but we sure know that he is one of those legendary figures whom we all admire.

Sir Alex Ferguson has won this trophy more than any other manager

Under his umbrella of guidance many great players like Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and the club Manchester United itself, reached new heights. Under his guidance, United won the Treble in 1998-99 season.  One of the greatest names under Ferguson was Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro who is known to be the world’s best player, presently.

Sir Alex is also proclaimed as a godfather for many players other than Cristiano Ronaldo, like Wayne Rooney and the class of 92. All Manchester United fans were teary-eyed as Sir Alex decided to retire as the manager of the red devils in 2013. He is presently the director of the club he managed for 28 long years, the one and only Manchester United Football Club. Sir Alex Ferguson’s main focus during his reign at the club was to keep players fit and inspired at all times, just like he once said

"If I have my health I can carry on. There will be a point when I do quit but I have absolutely no idea when that is."

This has got to be one of the prudest achievement of Sir Alex Ferguson

Being present in these past glorious years of football, I feel ignited with love for this sport and also feel optimistic about its future.
