St. Petersburg: India U-18 has been drawn to play with hosts Russia, Bulgaria and Moldova in the XXXI Valentin Granatkin Tournament 2019. This will be the second time India will participate in this tournament. India had previously played the 2017 version of the tournament.
Under the tutelage of German coach Nicolai Adam, India played against hosts Russia, Belarus and Latvia in the 2017 edition of the tournament.
India managed to earn 3 points from 3 games in the tournament, finishing 3rd in the group behind Russia and Latvia and above Belarus.
India fielded a younger side in that tournament, a team consisting of U-17 players who would go on to play in the FIFA U-17 World Cup later that year. The team lost 8-0 to Russia in the first game, but bounced back with 1-0 win over Belarus but lost 4-1 to Latvia in the final group game.
India U-18 this time will play under Floyd Pinto and will look forward to having positive results in the tournament before participating in the AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers in Saudi Arabia.
All the matches will be played in the Petrovsky Stadium. India will face Russia on June 4th, Moldova on June 6th and Bulgaria on June 8th in the group stage. All the matches will be streamed live on the official youtube channel of the organizers.
