"I no longer want to have superstar behaviour.” - PSG president fires shot at Neymar

PSG president and Qatari owner Nasser Al Khelaifi has said that the PSG project of winning the UEFA Champions League is back on after some changes in the backroom. Their Sporting director Antero Henrique was sacked and replaced by Leonardo, who returns back to PSG from AC Milan.

In an interview with the French magazine France Football, the PSG president reiterated his desire for glory and the lack of patience against superstar behaviour and big fat egos:

“The players are going to have to assume their responsibilities even more than before. It has to be completely different. They will have to do more, work more... They are not here to have fun. And if they don't agree with this point of view, the doors are open. Ciao!

I no longer want to have superstar behaviour.”

The words looked like clear shots at Neymar, with the club investing a significant amount of money in the Brazilian superstar. Neymar’s time at PSG has been marred with injuries at the wrong time, fan bust ups and late night partying. Neymar has also been involved in a rape case, an accusation which he has quashed by showing his conversation with the accuser.

But with two underwhelming exits in the Round of 16 and Thomas Tuchel failing to even win the domestic treble, things look awfully wrong in Paris. Khelaifi has shown some patience by committing to Tuchel for yet another year but that might not be the case with Neymar.

French journalist Julian Laurens has been quoted by ESPNFC saying: “The door holding Neymar to PSG has be squashed with Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and possible Manchester United being the only three clubs who can afford the player.”

It will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will make a move for Neymar. The Real Madrid fans have already answered this question, with the Madridistas chanting for Kylian Mbappe during Eden Hazard’s unveiling. Meanwhile, FC Barcelona are angling towards Antoine Griezmann, with the frenchman almost through the gates at the Camp Nou.

Interestingly, sources close to Lionel Messi have said that the Argentine maestro would prefer a move for Neymar over Antoine Griezmann, suggesting that PSG should go for Antoine Griezmann. This could be a move which the PSG project could massively profit from, with the wage package of Neymar off their books and a proven talent in Antoine Griezmann replacing the patchy Neymar.

Only time will tell if FC Barcelona will be willing to bring Neymar back or if Real Madrid will add Neymar to their long list of Brazilian players, but one thing is certain, PSG won’t mind Neymar donning the colours of a different club.
