ISL 2020-21 FC Goa vs Jamshedpur FC: FC Goa earn win through late Angulo winner

FC Goa defeated Jamshedpur FC by 2-1 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco on Wednesday night, thanks to Igor Angulo's brace as a response to Stephen Eze's goal for the hosts. The Gaurs came from behind to defeat Jamshedpur FC.

The match was a high attacking affair from the word go, with both sides probing into the enemy’s territory.

Goa had the initial golden opportunity to take the lead when Brandon Fernandes' cross to Angulo was put over the crossbar by the Spanish forward, which anyway would have been ruled offside.

Jamshedpur FC drew the first blood in the 33rd minute when Aitor Monroy delivered an inch-perfect set-piece that was put into the back of the net by Stephen Eze who outstretched his right foot to reach to the end of the cross.

Valksis tried to attempt a shot from the edge of the box minutes later but mistimed his effort wide of the target. The scoreline remained in the favour of the hosts at the break.

Aniket Jadhav almost doubled the lead for Jamshedpur when his shot was barely saved by Mohammed Nawaz.

FC Goa pressed hard for the equalizer and almost had one in the 53rd minute when Angulo won the ball in the midfield and carried it forward but his shot went well over the crossbar. But they finally restored the parity 11 minutes later when Alexander Lima's tackle brought down James Donachie inside the box and the resulting penalty was calmly converted into a goal by Angulo.

In the 70th minute,Nerijus Valksis direct free-kick hit the crossbar and minutes later Alexander Lima’s attempt at the goal yet again hit the crossbar as the hosts continued to look for the lead.

But Edu Bedia’s corner in the injury time was headed into the back of the net by Angulo to break Jamshedpur's heart as the Gaurs snatched the win.

FC Goa head coach Juan Ferrando acknowledged that the match was a tiring affair for the visitors,“It was a difficult game because when we play four games in 10 days, it is very difficult to prepare the team. But I am very happy with the character that my team showed,” Ferrando said at the post-match press conference.“At the end, the most important for us is to work for the full 90 minutes and stoppage time. This is our mentality; to work till the last second of the game. A lot of players were tired because of the tight schedule. Not only physically but also mentally. Now we have time to prepare against Hyderabad FC [on December 30].”

Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle was disappointed with the outcome but was all praises for Valskis, “ Valskis is an outstanding player. His freekick hit the crossbar, and a great shot got saved as well. He is a wonderful player and all we have to do is improve the service to him. When we do that, he will score goals for fun,” said Coyle.
