ISL: Spanish battle in Mumbai to decide the Champions.
Mumbai: Bengaluru FC and FC Goa are set to take the field at the Mumbai Football Arena today in the final of the Indian Super League here today. Backed by head coach Carles Cuadrat and Sergio Lobera, who have worked at the Youth setup of Catalan giants FC Barcelona, it will all be a battle of the Spanish Tiki-taka football tonight as both the sides will fight it out to lift their maiden ISL trophy.
Both the teams are deserving finalists, having finished first and second in the group stage respectively. In fact, both the teams have the same number of points and Bengaluru FC only on the basis of better head-to-head record. The Blues have won 3 out of their last 4 meetings, and Goa managing only one win.
But head coach Carles Cuadrat believes this stat does not mean too much with the sides going into the finals. "I don’t think the results of the previous games give us confidence because this is a final and a completely different situation.” said Cuadrat.
He also further added that the side which will dominate the midfield will probably win the game. "Both the teams have a lot of quality in the midfield. The battle is going to be about possession of the
ball in the midfield and how dangerous the top strikers that both teams have, can be."
While Lobera deemed the Blues to be the favourite to win the tie tonight, he also added that the
previous records are of no importance. "What happens in the past, stays in the past. Bengaluru is the
favourites but every game is different. We are ready and excited about tomorrow’s game. The teams
that perform better will take the trophy.”
It will be a battle between top strikers going head-to-head against each other, the Venezuelan Miku and Spaniard Ferran Corominas. Carles is aware of the threats Coro brings, being the league's top scorer but is also confident of the players he has in his ranks." Coro is a wonderful player but we have Miku.
They have Brandon (Fernandes) and Jackichand (Singh) but we have Sunil and Udanta. It’s going to be a very good attacking game. So, let’s see how the defenders manage against them.” said Cuadrat.
The match is slated to kick-off at 7:30 PM in Indian Standard Time.
