The Islanders took all points from the fixture courtesy a narrow win over the Highlanders.
Mumbai: Mumbai City FC defeated NorthEast United FC by 1-0 here at the Mumbai Football Arena on
Friday to replace Odisha FC in top four as the Highlander's winless run continues.
With this win the Islanders have now 23 points from 15 matches while the Highlanders have only 11
points as they languish at the 9th position of the points table.
Mumbai City FC began well from the word go, as the team attacked from the wings. The first real chance
for the hosts to take the lead came in the 28th minute, when a succession of passes resulted in an
opening for Modou Sougou whose shot unfortunately for the hosts, only managed to rattle the crossbar.
But the hosts did not have to wait for long as Diego Carlos took advantage of a weak Jose Leudo
clearance to fire home to make it 1-0 right before the half time mark.
After the start of the second half, substitute Martin Chaves added pace to the Highlander's attack, but
Mumbai City FC looked the likelier of the two to score as Diego Carlos continued tormenting the
Simon Lundevall created space for himself to shoot in the opponent box a few minutes later but was
easily denied by Amrinder Singh.
The scoreline remained so till the blow of full-time whistle as the Islanders heaved a sigh of relief,
making their way back into the race of the final four for playoffs.
