Robbie Fowler joins East Bengal as manager.
Former England international and Liverpool legend was managing Brisbane Roar.
Kolkata: New entrants to the Indian Super League (ISL) East Bengal have already made an impact by signing up former England International and Liverpool star Robbie Fowler as the head coach , offering him a two-year contract to manage the club.
""We have signed the contract last night (Thursday) and Robbie Fowler is expected to join the side directly in Goa within a week," said team's principal owner Hari Mohan Bangur to PTI on Friday.
East Bengal made a successful bid for entry to the Indian Super League this year after the club sold a major stake to Shree Cement, who have now begun to splash money to build a strong team.
Shree Cement now owns 76 percent of the share at the club, and the club will play as SC East Bengal in the league.
Fowler was previously managing A-League outfit Brisbane Roar.
"As of now, we have offered him a two-year contract which could be extended in due course," Bangur further added.
Bangur further said that he is wary of the fact that the team has lost a lot of time and need to began preparations quickly.
"We are already short on preparation, and will start with a handicap. So he will assemble the squad as early as possible in Goa. We will look to make a competitive side," Bangur said.
Robbie Fowler will also bring his entire coaching staff from Brisbane Roar to the club. Renedy Singh will also join the Coaching staff as assistant.
