SAFF U-15 Championship 2019: India thrash Bangladesh to reach final

Kalyani: India U-15 national football team defeated Bangladesh by 4-0 here at the Kalyani Stadium on Thursday to reach final.

India is now set to face Nepal in the final as India's win over Bangladesh coupled with their win over Bhutan ensured the Himalayan side reach final as well

Bangladesh came into the game in a do-or-die situation as they needed to beat India by at least a two-goal margin, in order to clinch the second spot and a spot in the final. However, the Blue Tigers were ruthless as the side in green stood no chance against mighty hosts.

India had a nervy start in the game on a rain-soaked day as Bangladesh tried to dominate given the dire situation they were in.

The opponents had the early chances to take the lead, but they failed to capitalise. Isac Zomuanpuia the  had the first real chance for India, as he took advantage on a stopping ball in wet pitch to get the better of the Bangladesh defence. However, the same condition played a spoilsport as his low shot was stopped by a puddle.

However an in-form Himanshu Jangra who scored hattrick in the last match drew the first blood for Indian again, as he skillfully  back-headed a free-kick by Isac Zomuanpuia over the Bangladesh custodian into the back of the net.

India went into the dressing room with a lead.

Both the weather and the Indian gameplay improved after the change of sides. It was the combination of Himanshu and Isac that broke the Bangladesh defence yet again as Insider doubled the lead at the hour mark, when Isac sent in a free-kick from the right wing, that was again headed by Himanshu into the goal.

The duo didn't plan to stop, as they combined for the third time just a few minutes later, as Himanshu headed in a corner to score his hat-trick. Renedy Meetei scored in the dying minutes to make the score 4-0 for India, as the hosts sealed spot to the finals.
