Tashkent: The Indian senior women’s team was held to a draw in their second international friendly against Uzbekistan here at the Yakkasari Stadium on Monday.
The team waz cruising on a win courtesy a goal by Sandhiya Ranganathan, but the home side came back with a little over 10 minutes of normal regulation time left in the game through a Lyudmila Karachik penalty goal.
The match begin with a free flow brand of football as the game opened up on both sides. India forward Bala Devi had the first real chance of the match to break the deadlock for the visiting side, as she lined up a free-kick from close distance which unfortunately went wide of the goal.
Once again Dangmei Grace caused headaches to the Uzbekistan defence from the right wing, while custodian Aditi Chauhan put up a great display under the bars.
The teams went into the dressing room with the scoreline unchanged.
Post the halfway mark, however, the Blue Tigresses finally drew the first blood to take the lead as Bala Devi stormed forward and played a through ball to Sandhiya on goal as the latter converted the chance on the 52nd minute.
It was again a chance for the visitors to extend the lead when Ranjana Chanu raced down the left flank and whipped in a cross across the face of the goal but there was no one present in the box to convert the chance.
The anxious hosts kept knocking the door, trying to break the Indian defence, and got their reward as they were awarded a penalty in the 78th minute that was converted by Lyudmila Karachik.
The visitors had a great chance to restore the lead when Daya Devi managed to shoot from inside the box, but unfortunately her attempt went wide of goal.
